Self-concept as well as self prophecies are the most powerful systems of beliefs, attitudes and ideas of man about himself and the situation around him. It mediates the incentives of the outside world, determines the mind type and mentality of people and is a key reason for the feelings of his life as a happy or tragic, both are strong stimulus for self improvement and continued innovation. Self-concept had important functions in human life. According to British psychologist Robert Burns, it performs several functions. Self-concept contributes to the internal consistency of personality. If I-man concept is controversial, contains conflicting views, that person is experiencing discomfort. His actions in such cases are directed either to change the I-concept, or to distort reality for the sake of eliminating discomfort. Coherent I-concept allows the individual to feel confident, be in close contact with reality. Self-concept determines the interpretation of the life experience of the individual. In humans, there is a persistent tendency to interpret their own individual experience based on the representations of themselves. Self-concept is a sort of "lens" through which the refracted perceived reality. For example, a person who considers himself "incapable", may explain their success to chance, and "capable" - a manifestation of his talent, "unattractive" considers attention to itself as an attempt to make fun of, and "attractive" as an attempt to meet. A person with positive self-concept considers the smile in his address as an expression of good feelings, but with a negative - as a joke. |
